Dean Introduction

Antonio Maurizio Grioli- Dean, School of Fashion, Pearl Academy is an Italian origin fashion designer, who lived and completed his studies in England. With the experience of more than 15 years’ experience in the fashion industry, Maurizio is known for his distinct fashion statement. He was recently featured in the leading fashion magazine 2019 - GQ India amongst the 100 best-dressed people in India.

A renowned figure in the fashion industry today. Maurizio started his career in his late twenties and was soon recognized for bringing vitality to the industry. Based in New Delhi, Maurizio made a mark for himself in the initial years of his career as a fashion designer. In 2003, he was recognized as the "Young Designer of the Year" in Bristol in 2008, hewas awarded for being an "Emerging Talent in Rome".

His curiosity and aptitude to learn have addressed him towards an academic career. He has worked for well-known institutes both in Europe and Asia. The education field has allowed him to travel across different cultures and share his experience with the students. His extensive experience and an innovative approach towards the changing fashion industry have resulted in building future design scenarios.

Dean Introduction

Meha Jayaswal has over 24 years of experience in the fashion & media industry. Starting her career with India’s leading stock market magazine of the 90s - Dalal Street Investment Journal, she moved onto International Wool Secretariat (owners of the Woolmark) as a Trade Communications Executive - India and Southeast Asia and then to Confederation of Indian Industry, HQ New Delhi, before joining Pearl Academy in 2001.

A NET qualified mass communication graduate and trained in Advanced Fashion Journalism from London College of Fashion, UK, she has cumulated rich experience of curriculum research, planning and pedagogy. Her professional highlights include managing media and trade communications for International Wool Secretariat, Confederation of Indian Industry and forging close linkages with India’s leading media houses for Pearl Academy.

She has completed her Post-Graduate Certification in Higher Education from Nottingham Trent University, UK as the third toper Now, she shares her knowledge and experience with students and faculty members of Fashion Media, Journalism & Entertainment, and Photography courses as the Head of the Department. She teaches various modules on Media Management, Advertising & Promotions, Fashion PR, and mentors research projects of final year undergraduate & postgraduate students across Delhi & Mumbai. Recently, she has also been appointed as a Mentor for faculty members undergoing training in Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practices.

Parag Goswami holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion Styling and Image Design at Pearl Academy. He is also the project head of PearlxStudio, an entity of Pearl Academy that offers specialized courses in Personal Styling and Image Consulting, Fashion & Celebrity Makeup, Styling for Interiors, Costume Styling, Fashion Buying & Merchandising and Fashion Design for Menswear & Womenswear.

With a postgraduate degree, Parag has accumulated over a decade of academic experience in higher education, including a mid-managerial role at one of the top five Fortune 500 companies, where he spent five years.

Not only is Parag Goswami a fashion critic, but he is also a commentator on social, political, art, and cultural topics. His deep understanding of the mechanics and business climate of the fashion industry further enhances his insights. In addition, Parag is a freelance blogger and writer who regularly contributes to some of the nation's top newspapers and magazines, including Hindustan Times, Voice of Fashion, Outlook India, Indian Express, and The Sunday Guardian, among others.

He has a wide range of interests, including the psychology of clothing in politics, celebrity culture, and the semiotics of local and international red-carpet parades. As an international relations officer, he has collaborated with top art and design colleges and universities in Europe on various projects. Additionally, Parag frequently conducts workshops that focus on fashion business and image building, providing training for models and aspiring actors preparing for pageants and movies. He also offers sessions on personal branding and personality development for corporate professionals and top colleges in India.

Parag has extensive experience collaborating with various design houses, brands, organizations, and associations. He has worked with the Ministry of Textiles, World Bank, French & Italian Chamber of Commerce, and Fashion Design Council of India, among others, on a series of commercial, social, and skill development and training projects and initiatives sponsored by the Government of India.

Prasanna Baruah is the Head of the Department for Fashion & Textile. He completed his master’s degree in Fashion & Textiles from Pearl Academy and, later pursued a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Nottingham Trent University, UK. He has more than 20 years of experience of nurturing young creative minds to help them to grow as next generation of creative leaders and thinkers with appropriate industry exposure, opportunities for multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaborative learning. He started his career with mass-manufacturing apparel industry and also worked as a Fashion illustrator with renowned fashion designers and apparel brands. He is an expert academician helping every student’s distinctive voice, teaching them how to challenge and define the future of fashion. He teaches design in combination of heritage and radical thinking and blurring the beauty of craftsmanship with ever-emerging technology.

Dean Introduction

Shalini Gupta is a designer and educator, currently working as Head of Department, Styling and Beauty, at Pearl Academy, India. She graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai in 2000 with a bachelor’s in design. She has successfully run a design firm for 15 years specializing in handmade fashion accessories, before making the switch to teaching full-time in 2014. She has a keen interest in the history of costume and design, and fashion as communication. She is now building her body of research around gender stereotypes in India and fashion-related curriculum. She has presented her work at ‘Revisiting the Gaze’ UAL, which focused on Aging women and how they negotiate personal identity considering the diminishing Male Gaze. She also presented a photo series called ‘Ungender’ at Cumulus 2017, which focused on cultural symbols in dress that stereotype and how if reversed it may help to ‘Ungender’ certain preconceptions about gender roles themselves.

Badap Hynniewta is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Fashion & Celebrity Makeup , Pearl Academy, Delhi. He has more than 15 years of experience. His signature style of makeup is feminine and natural, drawing inspiration from modern aesthetics seen in the world’s greatest fashion shows, art, cinema and makeup trends from different countries.

He has work with some of the leading brands such as, IL&FS INDIA Skills Development, JAVED HABIB and MAC Cosmetics. Many of his projects include music video projects with T- shoots, portfolio shoots, magazine shoots, and runaway shows, editorial shoots, look book shoots and all these projects are spread across all over the country.

His artistic skills and eye for details has helped him to collaborate and work with the best in the industry, be it leading a team of makeup artist during prestigious, Lakme India Fashion Week, Lotus India Fashion Week or working with the participants of charity fashion week organized by the United Nation Women’s Association

As a freelance make up expert he has worked with online portals such Myntra and high street fashion magazines like Vogue and Style Cruze a (U.S. based print fashion magazine).

He was invited to conduct a master class in beauty booth, an event organized by The Luxurious Dlf Emporio, Delhi where he was one of the six leading make-up artists in the city to interact with Cream de la Crème. Recently Badap conduct two Masterclass one at The Shillong Club sponsored by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya in collaboration with Pearl Academy and the other one conducted by Serein India (House of Cosmetics)

Recently Badap published two articles in THE NORTHEAST HUB NEWS and THE SHILLONG TIMES. He is best known for his expertise in Headgears, Creative, Bridal, and Avant- Garde makeup.

Khampui Thaimei, an assistant professor in the styling and beauty department of the School of Fashion, is a specialist in hair, beauty, and make-up. She has received training from prestigious institutions such as L'Oreal, Wella, Balmain Paris, and B-Gorgeous. Ms. Thaimei embarked on her professional journey as a hair stylist and eventually became a trainer at the International Beauty Academy (IBA). She later served as HOD - Hair and External Examiner at Shahnaz Hussain's Beauty Academy and then as a Senior Hair Educator and Creative Stylist at the Lambency Chrysalis Academy. Currently, she works as a hair stylist faculty member and Course Curriculum Developer at Pearl Academy. In addition, Ms. Thaimei regularly handles creative style units for photoshoots and fashion shoots and has conducted seminars in various locations. With her extensive 21-year experience, she is passionate about assisting students in learning hands-on and in-depth knowledge regarding hair, beauty, and make-up.

Snigdha is an Associate Professor at Pearl Academy, where she teaches makeup artistry to aspiring students. She is a proud alumnus of Pearl Academy and received her diploma in Makeup Artistry from the UK. With over seven years of experience in the industry, Snigdha has made a name for herself as a celebrity makeup artist and trainer.

Snigdha's expertise extends beyond traditional makeup techniques, as she is certified in airbrush artistry by Temptu and in SFX artistry by Euro Chroma Institute (Krylon), Kennedy Hoffman, and Simran Takkar. Her mastery of the craft has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Fantasy Makeup award at Morphe in 2018.

With her extensive knowledge and experience, Snigdha has established herself as a go-to expert in the world of makeup artistry. She is dedicated to empowering the next generation of makeup artists, and her passion for the craft is evident in every aspect of her work.

Chavi Sood, an alumnus of Pearl, has been serving as a lecturer for over a year now. With extensive experience in interior styling, she has worked with leading décor magazines such as ELLE DECOR and Architectural Digest. Chavi has also been a visual merchandiser for retail. Her expertise lies in visual storytelling, and she is committed to presenting her work with precision and a keen eye for detail. Chavi's creative direction and styling range from magazine editorials to e-commerce, fashion and art events, shows, exhibitions, and performance arts. As a visual artist, she believes in transforming ideas, emotions, and stories into visual imagery. Chavi brings the same passion and attention to detail in mentoring students at Pearl. Her specialization lies in product styling and art direction, set design, home staging, event and food styling, interior decoration, and visual merchandising.

Gunpreet Kaur is an interior designer by profession who has been associated with Pearl Academy for the Interior Styling program for the last 10 years. With a vast experience in interior designing and visualizing, she has had the opportunity to work with international organizations such as Neuarc Studio U.S.A. where she showcased her skills as a virtual stagier. With an overall experience of 20 years, her forte lies in showcasing her thoughts digitally. During her journey, she got the chance to train employees from N.H.P.C. and N.T.P.C. Govt of India for their CAD training. Dedication, a creative eye with detailing, and finally, time management are some of the things she always focuses on.

Saakshi Nagpal is a practicing Architect and Interior designer with her firm based in Gurgaon. She brings in 10 years of rich experience in providing Interior design and Architecture solutions. She is an Alumni of CEPT University, Ahmedabad where she did her masters in Building Energy Efficiency. Saakshi is a researcher and has presented her research paper in International AEEE Conference in 2017, held in Jaipur.

She has a keen eye for details and believes in customizing the space as per user requirements. She has successfully completed 20 design and execution projects in the span of 5 years. Saakshi brings the same passion and attention to detail in mentoring students at Pearl. Her specialization lies in planning, Interior designing, BOQs, product research, design research and exhibition design.

Isha Yogi is a Delhi-based Fashion Stylist & Consultant, Art Director and a Visual artist at large. A Pearl Alumnus, she started her career with styling web banners, online campaigns, TVCs and advertorials for a leading E-commerce, Jabong. Since then, she has worked as a celebrity Stylist with clients such as Alia Bhatt, Manisha Koirala, Raja Kumari to name a few, styled for e-commerce giants such as Amazon India, has consulted various designers translating their vision into visual imagery and continues working as a Visual artist and more recently, as a Senior Lecturer.

Over the years her work has been published and featured in renowned Indian and International fashion publications such as Vogue Italia, Vogue India and Rough Digital, a UK-based Fashion Magazine. Being able to translate ideas, emotions and stories and to weave them into a powerful and impactful visual narrative and imagery that can start a conversation, or a dialogue is important to her as an individual and she tries to reflect the same in her work.

Isha Yogi is a dedicated professional who is passionate about continuously enhancing her skill set. Recently, she completed her advanced certification in professional makeup, demonstrating her commitment to staying up to date with the latest industry developments.

With six years of styling experience and a strong understanding of brand identity, she has been involved in numerous inspiring projects. With a broad client base of over 20 personal styling clients, Hiral possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the field of styling. Notably, she has successfully combined her love for fashion with helping those in need, utilizing fashion and style as tools of empowerment. Through her work, she has demonstrated the transformative power of fashion, inspiring confidence, self-love, and self-expression.

Hiral's industry experience extends beyond personal styling, encompassing celebrity styling, creative and art direction, commercial styling, TV commercials, and films. Her journey has taken her from being a student to becoming a tutor at Pearl Academy, which is a source of great pride for her. It provides an excellent opportunity for her to share her learnings and experiences with the new generation. In her final year of college, Hiral achieved the visionary project of the year award and was featured in Bombay Times. She graduated in fashion styling-image design and holds a degree from Nottingham Trent University, which has opened doors to numerous work opportunities, further advancing her career.

Over the years, Hiral has conducted more than 25 workshops, educating people about personal styling and the importance of image. This has enabled her to develop strong collaborative skills, working with brands, organizations, photographers, and industry professionals. Additionally, she offers personal grooming, personality development, and styling sessions to corporate companies and the upcoming generation.

He has a diverse career background that includes fashion designing, curating fashion events, designing look books, campaigns and style guides. Currently, he is working as a mentor and associate professor for post-graduate level students at Pearl Academy of Fashion, which is one of India's leading fashion design institutes.

Avik has a bachelor's degree in fashion from the UK and has had a remarkable career of 14 years with India's leading menswear and textile brand Raymond Limited. During his time with the company, he launched many innovative projects and represented India as a jury member on international platforms. Avik is now looking to engage more with the future generation of India's fashion industry and learn from them as well as share his thoughts and ideas.

In his free time, Avik enjoys watching world cinema and exploring traditional recipes from different cultures. He is also an avid reader and writer who loves to express himself through words and lines that reflect his thoughts.

Some of her distinguished accolades include winning the Best Young talent of Albania in a Fashion competition. She's worked as the head of the department for NOI in Krislon Synthetic and taking care of the entire fashion retail chain.

A professional in fashion with experience in both industry and education. Believes that learning is for life! She holds a master’s degree in Fashion, and technical subjects like pattern making and garment construction are her passion and forte! A good amalgamation of hand crafted and technology, she is proficient in embroidery and stitch crafts like crochet and in software like CLO 3D.

An alumnus of PVP S.N.D.T. Juhu, Mumbai, Fakhera has worked in the women’s wear category, customized clothing from trousseaux to everyday wear. She has also worked in Hi-end embroideries firm catering to international designers like McQueen, Gucci, J. Mendal, Celine to name a few. Through her on-going research she contributes towards traditional Indian crafts and blends it together through sustainable and responsible practices. This has helped her in honing her skills in textiles techniques.

A travel enthusiast, she loves to explore new places, culture, cuisine and captures it all beautifully through her lens. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

Since 2005 Fibin V Raj has served as a Fashion Designer and Stylist in the Chennai Fashion Scene for over a decade and a half, holding academic posts at various prestigious Institutes. He is known of his Creative Design process skills and his extensive styling and Design work with leading Fashion Photographer G. Venkat Ram has included numerous covers and celebrity features in Fashion magazines, Calendars, as well as campaigns for Color Plus, BASICS, Phoenix Market City, Kalpastree, IndiaToday. He has also worked as Programme Coordinator and Course leader for Fashion Design courses and Choreographed Fashion Shows at various Graduation Collections. Being a celebrity stylist for Runways, his prestigious awards include Super Star Stylist Award 2016 by Cinema Spice Chennai, Vodafone Red Fashion Icon Award by Vodafone 2015, Gen Next Inspirational Stylist Award in 2014, Ranked No 1, and Scored the Highest for All India NIFT Professor Entrance Exam 2014, Most Outstanding performer Award by Pearl Academy 2013, Most Stylish Stylist Award by Globus Style Awards 2012, Most Creative and Innovative Designer Award by NIFT in 2005. A fashion design graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gaurav Mandal is a recipient of 2 National Awards . He has Masters in Fashion Marketing from Nottingham Trent University and completed his certification as an expert in teaching higher education from Laureate University, USA. He also holds a degree in Post Academic Certificate in Academic Practice. He is pursuing his PhD. from UPES, Dehradun.

He is a columnist for TheEducationIndia.com, a free online repository of educational material with a core aim of swift dissemination of knowledge of existing & forecasted educational schemes for Indian citizen. His passion to disseminate knowledge to global audience led him to create his YouTube channel -World of Design embodying free design tutorial for students without access to regular schools. He is cofounded a self-run organization named Pinakigirl ( www.pinakigirl.com) which is dedicated for education of underprivileged girl.

He is associated with Pearl Academy as Associate Professor and worked as Course Leader for Post -Graduate Fashion Design Program for 3 years. He conducts workshops in design thinking, trend forecasting, fashion portfolio, critical thinking and branding in different schools and colleges. He has been a keynote speaker in various institutes across India.

Before fully shifting to academics, he cofounded Cor de Rosa ,a design studio and has showcased his collections in Italy, Singapore, and New Delhi. He has rich experience of working as a designer with international clothing brands accounts like Paul Smith, CK Jeans and Armani Exchange as well as domestic brands like Wills Lifestyle and AMPM Fashion.

Nandini Lal, a design educator by profession and by choice. Her passion to create, led her to join Masters in Knitwear Design and Technology in 2002 she worked in organized as well as unorganized sectors. Arvind Mills Limited, SPL Printing Mill, ILFS Cluster Development Initiatives were some of the major associations. With 20 years of experience in industry, government projects as well as NGOs she joined academics, Pearl Academy school of Fashion and contributing to Graduate and Post-Graduate courses.An expert in textile science, creative textiles with industrial methods shementored students through the design process and garment range planning for their graduating projects. Her desire for new learning kept her motivated to do online course for Hybrid, Blended Education (OHBE) from laureate. She has been continuously doing research for sustainable fashion and related subjects. Currently she is pursuing PhD and researching for systematic inclusion of Sustainable practices into fashion education.

 
Paridhi Dhanuka

Born and brought up in the city of joy, Kolkata, Paridhi is a Textile Designer andEducator.

After earning a degree in Textile Design from Pearl Academy, New Delhi in the year 2016, she moved to Himachal Pradesh, where she landed a job as a Design Assistant at the prestigious Vardhman Textiles.

She was also awarded as the Bursary Winner in the 91st Textile Institute World Conference 2018: Integrating Design with Sustainable Technology for her Research Paper on Jute which she presented at the University of Leeds.

Excited by the various creative possibilities and her love for handloom, she joined Ekaya as a Textile Designer in 2017. Working as an in-house designer there and simultaneously freelancing forfive years, she has created successful print and woven designs for eminent brands across the Indian Subcontinent.

She has joined Pearl Academy as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fashion where she started her creative career and continues to evolve as a designer. She teaches Design Process, Textiles and Computer-Aided-Design at Pearl. She is methodical, self-motivated, friendly, and independent. She believes in continuous growth through her passion for imparting education and research.

Parul Agarwal is an experienced Assistant Professor in the Fashion Design department, who has been teaching for 14 years and maintains close ties with the industry. He completed his postgraduate studies in Fashion Design (Domestic Retail) from Pearl Academy, New Delhi in 1999, and later pursued his Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) U.K. in 2011-12.

With more than 10 years of experience in apparel and textile design, Mr. Agarwal has worked in various roles such as Head Designer at P&G Pvt. Ltd, Senior Merchandiser at Ravissant, and Head Designer for Women's wear at Cosmique Ltd. Gurgaon, Leconate Hemant Pvt. LTD, and Ashima & Leena Singh. Additionally, he owned and managed his own garment manufacturing unit for three years and collaborated with several national and international brands including RAPEE Australia, Moltex Sweden, Target, and Ripley. He has also worked as a freelance senior designer and merchandiser for over four years, catering to clients like Ravi Bajaj & Satya Paul, and has a wealth of experience in working on unusual fabrics, texturing, and detailing.

Apart from his professional life, Mr. Agarwal enjoys creating his own felt textures and participating in various craft events. He is also an avid traveler and food enthusiast who enjoys spending time with his friends.

Poonkuzzhali PK, is an alumnus of Istituto Europeo Di Design, Milan, Italy, where she completed her Master Research Program in Fashion & Textile Design prior to which she has a bachelor’s degree in Apparel Fashion Design, from NIFT TEA Fashion Institute, Tirupur, India.

She comes with 15 years of industry experience, working with Designer Ritu Kumar, Mandala Apparels(Pondicherry) and also providing design services to various Fashion Brands & Design Studios worldwide, Oomph & Floss(Australia), Zoejo Designs(USA), Neroplatino Designs, Fuel4Fashion(Mumbai) to name a few.

Her passion to teach, got her involved with the NMEICT Project, in collaboration with the NIFT(National Institute of Fashion Technology), Chennai, she has developed, online course content and curriculum for Design subjects. She has also conducted guest lectures in NIFT’s other design institutes and is now a proud member of our team.

With an academic experience of more than 30 years, Saroj holds a masters in textiles and clothing from Delhi University and a post-graduate certificate in higher education from Nottingham Trent University U.K. At Pearl Academy of Fashion, besides her teaching assignments in Textile Studies, embroidery, and creative textiles, she conducts industry workshops in the areas of Fabrics and wet processing. She is actively involved in curriculum design and has extended her services as an external verifier for academic institutes. She has also published papers in various journals and conferences.

Working as Associate Professor in Pearl Academy for the past8 years, Sharda has more than a decade of enriched teaching experience.Her expertise lies in the areas of technical textiles, traditional crafts, and creative surface design. Accoladed with Silver Medal for her Masters in Fabric and Apparel Science from University of Delhi, she possesses UGC- NET Qualification and has also worked as Assistant Professor in University of Delhi for three years in her initial career. In addition to the above experience, she was a Research Investigator in Delhi University Innovation Projects funded by UGC.

She has Co-authored three books on Home Furnishings and Textile Accessories for Usha International Pvt. Ltd and authored chapters on Indian Traditional Textiles for IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University, India). She has presented research papers in National and International conferences. Her key areas of research are Naturally Coloured Cotton and Indian traditional crafts. She has mentored hundreds of students in the field of innovative and sustainable textile designs. Sharda has been conducting workshops on textile techniques like Shibori, Batik and Printing methodologies for PAN India schools and colleges.

Sumit K. Priyadarshi is a NIFT graduate who worked for European &Middle east fashion brands. His work also got recognition from Harper's Bazaar Asia New-Gen design award-2018, India. Previously he also worked as Design lead with retail brand Zingrin. As an educator, He helped students to achieve success in reputed national & international design competitions like WOW (New Zealand) Redress design award (Hong Kong), DLF Emporio design award (India), etc. In 2021 he completed online certifications Virtual Teacher Specialization (University of California, Irvine).

Swati is a versatile professional with extensive experience in both the fashion industry and fashion education. She has a background in fashion design, illustrations, and product development, and completed her Post Graduation in Fashion Design from Pearl Academy in 2010. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters in Drawing and Painting from IGNOU. With 13 years of work experience, Swati has developed expertise in design, sampling, marketing, and teaching. She started her career in the fashion industry and worked in various companies, handling design and marketing teams for six years across different countries in Europe.

Currently, Swati is an Assistant Professor at Pearl Academy where she teaches illustration, printmaking, CAD, and portfolio development. She is actively involved in marketing activities and handles different projects as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the organization. During her academic tenure, Swati has written a book titled CAD tools as a single author for USHA and co-authored Fashion Drawing for IGNOU.
